Granny square blanket / Color study

Wait til you see all the yarn I bought.

Trying to figure out the palette. I want to introduce some COLOR (not too much) into my living room, which is very neutral.



Three color dimensions:

1) Hue (red, green, blue, yellow...)
2) Value (lightness/darkness)
3) Chroma (color purity)

Different colors/values create contrasting concentric rectangles...do I want contrasting concentric rectangles?

I could do large blocks of a few different colors of similar value, or gently graded values, to avoid a too-busy stripe-effect:
